Nirmal Raj Gyawali
Profile:
President of Yoga Ashram Japan and native of Nepal. He initially came to Japan in 2003. “There were foreign members in Arogya Ashram of Nepal, but they could not stay long due to issues relating to visa. But then, if I go and teach them, thousands of students can take plenty of time learning yoga.” This is how he decided to start teaching yoga, based in Japan.
“Let’s enjoy Yoga and make it a part of our regular lives.”
Nirmal’s hobby is badminton, having been part of the National Nepalese Team in the past, and enjoys a passionate match even to this day.

Naresh Shresta
Profile:
Native of Nepal, Naresh was part of Nepal’s National Cricket Team during his 20s. Upon meeting Nirmal, he began his journey into yoga, focusing his training on Yogic Massage, Shirodhara, and even Ayurveda Cooking.
“When doing yoga, there is no need to think about things such as being too old or having too stiff of a body, it’s most important to just have fun. There’s no need to compare yourself to anyone else. The only person who can improve your life is yourself!”

Niraj Gyawali
Profile:
Native of Nepal. Something Niraj only realized through Yoga is the ability to become self-aware. Additionally, by acquiring flexibility in your body, mind, and soul, it’s easier to perform well at your job, your mental state will be much more positive, and overall it will contribute to improving the quality of your life.
“It’s not just about bending your body. It’s about going from one pose through to the next while being more conscious and aware of yourself.”
Niraj is the younger brother of Nirmal, and enjoys driving, surfing, and shopping. As a fan of trendy fashion, Niraj finds himself loving Japan.

Kuriko Takeuchi
Profile:
In the past, Kuriko had suffered from eating disorder and finally withdrawn herself from society for two years. Back then she had completely denied the meaning of living, but now she is living a vibrant and happy life. Kuriko cares greatly about preservation of woods, and creates elaborate accessories and incenses by polishing pieces of spare wood, using the proceeds to spread the word for her cause. She also has ventured out to the mountainous village tribes of Vietnam to learn about the art of plant dyeing. She credits much of the turnaround in her life to yoga, especially meditation.

Mikiko Matsui
Profile:
Mikiko used to work for a large beer company for 20 years, coping with hard works with her vitality. However, upon starting her journey into Nirmal Yoga and undergoing Teacher Training (TT), she discovered how tired her job was actually making her, and left the company.
“Listen not to the chatter going around you, but instead to the voice of your heart. Let’s be more self-aware while doing yoga. You can feel more moat ease when you have calmness in yourself.”
Mikiko enjoys listening to the violin of Taro Hakase, having been a passionate fan since before his solo debut.

Natsumi Ohori
Profile:
Natsumi began her journey with Nirmal yoga during her student days. Back then, she practiced yoga every day, having also spent time at Ashram centers in Nepal and Bali. To Natsumi, yoga is her light, and through yoga she has been able to become a stronger person.
“There is almost no chance to consciously face ourselves in daily lives. So, it’s very important to move our body through yoga as a way of becoming self-aware and realizing changes of our bodies. This makes it easy to understand what we should be doing at any given time. It’s also at this point where we realized that the path of yoga has significant depth.”

Aya Mimura
Profile:
Aya participated in the Teacher Training (TT) in Nepal.
“It wasn’t until I studied yoga did I realize how difficult my life had been up to that point, and as I persevered, all of the worries and fears gradually just disappeared.”
Recently Aya moved out of the city of Tokyo to Hayama, Kanagawa pref., and is now enjoying the fresh clean air and the peacefulness of watching the different colors of the sky throughout the day. She loves walking barefoot along the beach.
“You don’t really need a reason to start doing yoga, and you don’t have to try too hard when you’re doing it. Let’s just relax and enjoy.”
